Editorial Note

Time really flies. After the launch of our myBatik inaugural issue in December 2007 by YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat (who is now the new Minister of Transport), Malaysians went through the turbulence of the national elections. Before we knew it, April was around the corner and it was time for us to launch our second issue.
All this would not have happened without the enormous support of many people.
First of all, we are delighted with the encouraging response we have been getting since the launch of this magazine. Many people especially those involved in the batik industry have welcomed the addition of myBatik as an invaluable source of information and education for the promotion of batik.
Readers too gave us favourable comments. Many have requested for additional copies, and wanted us to send them the next issue of our magazine. We are indeed very happy to announce that the circulation for myBatik has since increased and the magazine will now be reachable to a wider readership.
I am particularly grateful to all our advertisers, and the many contributors who have provided information about the industry. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank members of the myBatik team for their undivided efforts.
Many thanks must also be extended to all our friends – new and old! Your continuous support means a lot to us.
In every issue of myBatik, we will try to highlight and bring you stories about the fascinating world of batik – not only those from Malaysia but all around the world. In batik, there is no shortcut to a creation of a beautiful masterpiece. From tjanting (canting) to colouring, and the fixing of colours, each piece of batik is carefully created. A batik painter has to stand through it, in order for imagination to be transformed into reality. Each piece is unique, each piece a labour of love.
We too try to apply the same spirit to each issue of myBatik. We hope you will enjoy reading our magazine. Your constructive comments will certainly help us improve. If you have any ideas and suggestions, please feel free to write to me. Let’s keep in touch!
Regards,
Emilia Tan
